Tanguy Ndombele: Tottenham Hotspurs New Transfer Record
Tanguy Ndombele is a French midfielder who showcased his skills in the midfield in Ligue 1 club, Olympique Lyonnais. He has played 69 games in Ligue 1 where he scored one goal and provided 14 assists. Tanguy Ndombele completed 63 of the 92 dribbles he attempted in Ligue 1 last season, resulting in a 68% success rate. This is the highest success rate of any player in Europe’s top five leagues last season to attempt as many dribbles. On 11 October 2018, Ndombele made his senior France debut by coming on as a substitute for Paul Pogba. His strengths lie in tackling and his box-to-box ability. He is also very good at dribbling which enables him to penetrate defences in the final third of the field. Pochettino will most probably play him in the central midfield. The Central Midfield is an area in which they have lacked depth since Mousa Dembele’s departure to the Chinese side Guanzhou R&F in January.

Last season, Olympique Lyonnais tried eight different formations and Tanguy Ndombele was able to adapt to all the tactics because of his versatility. The 22-year-old will likely play at the base of the 4-2-3-1 formation commonly used by Pochettino. Mauricio Pochettino signed Tanguy for the club’s record fee £65m plus up to €10 million (£8.97 million) in add-ons. The club’s official Twitter account announced that France International has signed a deal with Spurs until 2025. Spurs also signed Jack Clarke from Leeds United on Tuesday, but he is set to go back to the EFL Championship side on loan for the 2019-20 season.

Tanguy Ndombele still has room to improve as told by his former clubs head coach “He has to go one last step in finishing, the only thing he needs to become a great player,” Genesio said. “He lacks some concentration in the final third but he has the technical quality to do it. Tottenham plays with a lot of intensity which is at the heart of Ndombele’s play. He will be perfect for the press, the rhythm and the movement associated with a Pochettino team.
