The Music Sensation – Sunidhi Chauhan

She has made us grooved to the peppy numbers like ‘Sheila ki jawani’, ‘Dhoom Machale’ and ‘girls like to swing’. The voice behind the ‘Desi girl’, Sunidhi Chauhan is one of the sensational female playback singers of Bollywood. While The Times of India considered her voice as the “liveliest voice in Bollywood”. Mens.XP.com describes her voice as “orgasmic and extremely fierce”.

 

    • Born to a Rajput family, Chauhan began her singing career at a mere age of 4 by performing at local gatherings and taking part in competitions. Her love for singing was so intense that she left her studies midway to continue her musical career.

 

    • Sunidhi never had any professional training for singing, instead of trained herself with regular riyaz by listening to cassettes and CDs of popular singers. She set her foot in the Bollywood industry without any helping hand or a godfather in the industry.

 

    • Life was not a bed of roses for her. At the age of 18, she tied the knot with director and choreographer Bobby Khan but the marriage came to an end within a year. Later in 2012, the singer got married to music director and composer Hitesh Sonik and the couple is now expecting their first child.

 

    • Idolising the legendary Lata Mangeshkar, Chauhan says, “She is not a singer for me but a temple of music. There is something beyond singing that only she has”.

 

    • Being the voice to many chartbuster songs, in 2010 she made her international debut with the song “Heartbeat” alongside Spanish singer Enrique Iglesias.

 

    • During the 2010 Commonwealth Games closing ceremony, the ‘kamli’ singer performed a 30-minute segment titled the Universal Music of Love with 10 other artists.

 

    • At the 2015 Global Citizen Festival the in New York, Sunidhi represented India where she shared the stage with phenomenal singers like Coldplay, Pearl Jam and Beyoncé.

 

    • She has even dubbed for the character of Elsa in the Hindi version of the famous animated movie “Frozen”.

With a long list of achievements and awards, Chauhan has received three Filmfare Awards, two for Best Female Playback and one RD Burman Award for New Music Talent among others.
