Tips for Healthy and Safe Holi – Yeah, Holi is around the corner, and the excitement is increasing day by day as the dates are coming closer!  Holi is one of the most colorful and energetic festivals of India. Holi is the festival of colors celebrated with sweets – specially Gujiya, Pichkari, Bhang, dance and fun.

After the celebrations are over,  some of us are left with skin rashes, eye allergies and discoloration of hair due to the chemical used in colors. It is as important to take care of your skin and hair as it is to celebrate the festival. Here are some easy tips for healthy and safe Holi and your health in general during Holi.

 

1. Stay Hydrated

 It is very important to keep yourself hydrated during Holi, The season of Holi is the beginning of summer and while playing Holi,  running and chasing our friends we dehydrate quickly soto stay hydrated, drink enough water.

 

2. Avoid chemical made colors

The colors made with chemical are very harmful to your skin that will damage your skin and hair too, Therefore, use natural or organic colors available in the market. You can even use homemade colors which can be made using ingredients like turmeric, sandalwood, marigold etc.

 

3. Oil your body

Before playing Holi, it is important to oil your body. Apply oil all over your body from head to toe. Use coconut or mustard oil for best results. The oil will prevent colors sticking to your body.

4. Wash your hands while eating

It happens with everyone that Holi colors mix up in the boxes of dry fruits, sweet and nuts that you offer to your friends, family and guests. So, it is must, to wash your hands before eating anything, properly every time you reach for the plate. Or better use a fork or toothpick.

You should take care while using Pichkari, especially near the eyes and face. Be careful while coloring someone. Be very careful while playing with balloons as thrown from a distance, it can prove to be harmful.

Use sunscreen on your face as well as on hands before playing Holi, sunscreen protects your face from colors and will also save you from harmful rays as you will be out having fun.

 

7. Home remedies for cleaning the colors

 After playing Holi, removing colors is such as a tough task to do. Here some tips for cleaning the colors. Don’t scrub your skin as this may damage the skin. Use home remedies such as, make a paste of 2 tsp of flour, 4 drops of Turmeric, and 4 drops of olive oil. Mixed it all properly, then scrub it and wash your face. You can also use a mild face wash. Anyways, what’s the fun of playing Holi if the color doesn’t stay there for a few more days.
