1842 – Satyendranath Tagore was the first Indian to join the Indian Civil Services. He was an author, song composer, and a linguist who made a significant contribution towards the emancipation of women in the Indian society during the British Raj.
1929 – Nargis Dutt was an Indian actress that starred in Bollywood classics. She is also regarded as one of the greats of cinema and made her debut with Talash-E-Haq in 1935, at the age of just 5 years old. Her career began in 1942 with the film Tamanna.

1930 – Deccan Queen was introduced as a weekend train during the days of the British raj to ferry rich patrons – fans from Bombay (now Mumbai) to Poona (now Pune) to attend horse racing at Pune Race Course. The first service of the train was conducted from Calyan (now Kalyan) and Pune.
