  • With coronavirus cases swelling in the country, the government banned the entry of passengers from EU countries, Turkey and the UK from March 18 till March 31.
  • Karnataka’s Health Department is reporting two new cases of the new coronavirus disease, Covid-19. That takes the total number of cases in the state to 10. One senior citizen has died of the illness in Kalaburagi district.

  • The Iskcon temple in Mumbai’s Juhu used cow urine (gaumutra) as hand sanitizer for half-a-day after the management ran out of the regular alcoholic sanitizer.
  • France went into lockdown to fight the rapidly-increasing spread of coronavirus as Europe closed its borders. French President Emmanuel Macron said the European Union’s external borders would close for 30 days starting Tuesday, as the number of deaths worldwide passed 7,000.
  • The Supreme Court will today hear the BJP’s plea asking it to order a floor test in the Madhya Pradesh assembly within 12 hours. Chief Minister Kamal Nath faces an uphill battle to remain in power, having been weakened by the resignation of 22 Congress MLAs.
  • The SC is scheduled to hear a plea filed by BJP leader Shivraj Singh Chouhan seeking directions to Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath to prove his government’s majority in the assembly with a trust vote.
  • On March 16–the first day of the budget session of the Madhya Pradesh Vidhan Sabha–state governor Lalji Tandon issued a directive to hold a floor test in the assembly. This was expected to settle the all-important issue of whether the beleaguered Kamal Nath government enjoys a majority in the house or not.

  • A21-year-old Spanish football coach Francisco Garcia, who worked with Atletico Portada Alta, has died from coronavirus. Garcia was also suffering from leukemia after being taken to the hospital with severe coronavirus symptoms.
  • Cricket South Africa (CSA) suspended all forms of the game in the country for 60 days after the government banned gatherings larger than 100 people in response to the threat of the coronavirus outbreak.
  • The Quinton de Kock-led South African team on Monday checked into a city hotel near the airport as the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) took all precautions for their safe return home amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

  • Actor Idris Elba took to twitter to inform his fans that he has tested positive for the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) and is currently self-isolating.
