  • The Covid-19 crisis appeared escalating with at least 11 new deaths including of six from Telangana who had attended a religious congregation in the national capital’s Nizamuddin area earlier this month. 227 fresh cases of infection nationwide, highest for a day, have been reported by the government.

  • Vijay Mallya tweeted saying Kingfisher has stopped all operations but employees have not been sent home. Mallya has sought the government’s help.
  • There has been a steep rise in patients with mental illness since the coronavirus outbreak in the country. As per a survey by the Indian Psychiatry Society, the sudden rise in those suffering from mental illness is up to 20 percent.
  • Telangana government has announced that there will be a 75 percent cut in the salaries of CM, state cabinet, MLAs, MLCs,  chairpersons of state corporations, and representatives of local bodies.
  • Nurses and doctors at Howrah General Hospital protested in front of the office of the hospital superintendent, demanding PPE and other medical facilities like sanitizers for the treatment of coronavirus-affected patients.
  • Uttar Pradesh government has sealed inter-state borders. However, to ensure that the supply chain is not disrupted trucks carrying essential items are being allowed to enter and go to other states like MP, Bihar, and Uttarakhand.
  • UP government deposited Rs 611 crores in the bank accounts of 27.5 lakh workers in the state under MNREGA scheme.

  • Sania Mirza has raised Rs 1.25 crores to help out needy families amid coronavirus outbreak.
  • Nehru Stadium is being handed over by the Sports Authority of India to the Delhi government for use as a quarantine center for Covid-19 patients.
  • 2020 Olympics postponement is a huge blow for Japan. The country has invested around $13 billion in the run-up to the games as also raised around $3 billion from domestic sponsors.
