So, here is the story of Tulsi Gowda and all that you need to know about her. Tulsi Gowda, an Indian environmentalist, hails from Honnali village in the Ankola taluk, located in Karnataka. She has planted over 30,000 saplings and also takes care of the nurseries of the Forest Department in the state of Karnataka. Tulsi Gowda is regarded as the Encyclopaedia of the forest because of her vast knowledge about plants and herbs, despite the fact that she has not received any formal education in her entire life. She is a 72-year-old environmentalist, who belongs to Halakki, one of the indigenous tribes settled in North Karnataka.

Tulsi Gowda started working early in life and gained immense knowledge of plants and forests while working alongside her mother. She started working at the age of 12 at a local nursery with her mother and after devoting six decades of her life towards environment conversation, she has been awarded the Padma Shri. What made Tulsi Gowda’s story viral was the fact that she arrived in the National Capital to receive the award in her indigenous clothing and was barefoot. Her immense contribution towards saving the trees and the environment was a relatively lesser-known fact. President Ram Nath Kovind conferred her with Padma Shri on November 8th in Delhi for her exemplary work in the social work category.
