Coming back to U19 Asia Cup 2018 India Vs Bangladesh, India booked their place into the final of the ACC U19 Youth Asia Cup after defeating Bangladesh in the first semi-final. A close semi-final saw India eke out a two-run victory courtesy of a disciplined bowling effort. India will play the final against the winner of the second-final between Sri Lanka and Pakistan.
After dominating their group, winning all three of their matches to top Group A which featured Nepal, Afghanistan and UAE, the Indian U19 team was expected to blitz past Bangladesh when the two sides met for a place in the final. However, a batting collapse by the Indians saw them being stretched to their last resources before the bowlers came good to guide the team to a win.
Batting first, India started off well, with Jaiswal and Rawat notching up a good 66 run partnership. Opener Jaiswal got a 69 ball 37 for himself to top score for the Indians while his partner Rawat helped himself to a nifty 35. Looking to set to get a good score, India suffered a middle-order slump, losing three wickets in a quick situation. Crawling to 172, India were unable to even play out their full quota of overs, ending their first innings in utter disappointment.
The defense of this paltry total was what defines the Indian U19 side as one of the best in the circuit currently. Despite being down on their knees, the Indians never lost hope, churning out a bowling effort worthy of a title winning performance.
Pacer Jangra and left-arm spinner Desai were the architects of India’s victory. The duo ripped through Bangladesh’s top-order, reducing them to 65-5 by the 20th over. A 74 run partnership for Bangladesh from that perilous situation between Hossain and Ali took them closer to the target but the Indian bowlers gave nothing away, continuing to increase the run-rate, bowling a tight and mean line.
Under pressure to up the ante, the Bangladesh U19 team perished in the 47th over to hand over India U19 a spot in the final of U19 Asia Cup.
