He held the record for most consecutive ODI matches played for Australia during the period between 1997 and 2001. Gilly has played 96 back to back ODI matches without taking a break in his 12-year career.

The scoreboard showed the match proceedings as 11:11 11/11/11. After looking at that, Cricket South Africa asked fans on the field to stand on one leg for one minute. On seeing fans, umpire Ian Gould also joined the fans and stood on one leg for that particular minute.
