Check out the unlock guidelines for hotels below. Hotels opening after the lockdown will have to follow these guidelines issued by the Central Government. Guests and hotel staff will also have to adhere to the guidelines.

Let’s take a look at some unlock guidelines for hotels to follow:

  • Mandatory hand hygiene and thermal screening at the entrance.
  • Only staff and guests with no symptoms shall be allowed in the hotel.
  • Staff and guests will only be allowed to enter with a face cover/mask. It is mandatory to wear the face cover/mask at all times inside the hotel.
  • Adequate manpower to be deployed so as to ensure social distancing norms.
  • Staff should wear gloves and must take other required precautionary measures.
  • All employees with a higher risk should take extra precautionary measures (older employees, pregnant employees and employees who have underlying medical conditions). They should not be exposed to any front-line work that involve direct contact with public. Hotel management must facilitate work from home wherever feasible.
  • Hotel must ensure proper crowd management both inside and in outside premises including parking lots, gardens, etc. Large gatherings/congregations continue to remain prohibited.
  • Valet parking, if available, should only be operational with operating staff wearing face covers/ masks and gloves. A proper disinfection of the steering, door handles, and keys of the vehicles should be taken up.

  • A separate entry and exits for guests & staff and goods/supplies should preferably be organized.
  • Ensure maintenance of physical distancing of a minimum of 6 feet, even when queuing up for entry or inside the hotel. Specific markings must be made with sufficient distance to manage queues and ensure social distancing inside the premises.
  • The number of people in the elevator shall be restricted. Use of escalators with one person on alternate steps to be encouraged.
  • Important details like travel history, medical condition, must be provided by the guest at the reception, along with his/her ID and self-declaration form.
  • Posters/standees/AV media with preventive measures about COVID-19 should be displayed prominently.
  • Hand sanitizers must be kept at the reception. Guests must sanitize hands before and after filling relevant forms including A&D register.
  • Hotels must adopt contactless payment processes like QR code, online forms, digital payments, etc. for both check-in and check-out.
  • Luggage should be disinfected before sending to rooms.
  • Guests at higher risk are advised to take extra precautions (those who are older, pregnant or those who have underlying medical conditions).
  • Guests should be advised not to visit areas that fall under containment zones.
  • Hotel must follow precautions while handling supplies, inventories, and goods in the hotel. Proper queue management and disinfection shall be organized.
  • Appropriate personal protection gears like face covers/masks, gloves, and hand sanitizers etc. shall be made available by hotel to the staff and the guests.
  • Detailed guidelines issued for restaurants shall be followed.
    – Seating arrangement in the restaurant also to be made in such a way that adequate social distancing is maintained.

    – Buffet service should also follow social distancing norms among guests.

Mandatory unlock guidelines for hotels to follow post lockdown:

  • Room service or takeaways will be encouraged, instead of dine-in. Food delivery personnel should leave the packet at the guest or customer’s door instead of handing it over to the receiver. Staff for home deliveries shall be screened thermally by the hotel authorities prior to allowing home deliveries.
  • For room service, communication between guests and in-house staff will be allowed via intercom/ mobile phone and room service (if any) should be provided while maintaining adequate social distance.
  • Gaming Arcades or Children play areas shall remain closed.
  • Temperature of all air conditioning devices should range between 24-30oC, as directed by guidelines of CPWD. Relative humidity should range between 40-70% while intake of fresh air should be as much as possible with adequate cross ventilation.
  • Effective and frequent sanitation shall be maintained with particular focus on lavatories, drinking and hand washing stations/areas within the premises.
  • Cleaning and regular disinfection (using 1% sodium hypochlorite) of frequently touched surfaces (door knobs, elevator buttons, hand rails, benches, washroom fixtures, etc.) to be made mandatory in all guest service area and common areas.
  • Guests and staff should all ensure proper disposal of face covers/ masks and gloves.
  • Deep cleaning of all washrooms shall be ensured at regular intervals.
  • Rooms and other service areas shall be sanitized each time a guest leave.
  • The staff in the kitchen should follow social distancing norms and kitchen area must be sanitized at regular intervals.

What to do in case of a suspect or confirmed case in the premises?

  • Place the ill person in an isolated room or area, away from others.
  • Provide a mask/face cover till he/she is examined by a doctor.
  • Immediately inform the nearest medical facility (hospital/clinic) or call the state or district helpline.
  • A risk assessment will be undertaken by the designated public health authority (district RRT/treating physician) and accordingly further action must be initiated regarding management of case, his/her contacts and need for disinfection.
  • Disinfection of the premises to mandatorily be taken up if the person is found positive.
