Coming back to US Open 2018 Semi-Final Match Highlights, Novak Djokovic blew apart Kei Nishikori in the second US Open men’s semi-final to reach a record eighth final at the event. It was an easy win for Djokovic which saw him overcome his opponent in straight sets by 6-3, 6-4, 6-2. The win puts Djokovic as the favorite to lift the title ahead of the final on Sunday which will see him take on Martin Del Potro. The no.3 seeded Argentine reached his first final after winning the tournament in 2009 after Rafael Nadal was forced to retire due to a painful knee problem in the first semi-final on Friday.
Cincinnati Masters Final: Djokovic Creates History
A marathon against Dominic Thiem had seen Nadal amass over 16 hours playing time coming into his semi-final against Del Potro. And the long, ardors and hard fought hours of tennis clearly had a toll over him. Del Potro pushed him to his extreme in the first set which Nadal fought with every inch of strength. However, the world no.1 was never able to recover from the intensity of that set and never looked like himself throughout the remainder of the match.
Del Potro made the most of a jaded Nadal, dominating his opponent in serves. Not only did Del Potro win 70% of his first serves but killed off Nadal by winning 61% of Nadal’s second serves. The second set was too much to take for Nadal. Pushed over the edge, he cut a clearly frustrated figure on court, one whose injury ensured that he had to quit the match.
Djokovic who himself is making a return from his recurring elbow problems is completely on top of his game now. His semi-final against Nishikori highlighted the 13-time grand slam and 2 time US Open champion’s class. In a magnanimous show of strength and skill, Djokovic swept past Nishikori 6-3, 6-4,-6-2 to set up a final summit clash with Del Potro.
“It means the world to me, obviously,” Djokovic said. “I’m trying to be the best I can be, every day, and obviously, I’m trying to reach certain heights that I guess I visualize. Every time I accomplish something big, I see a new mountain to conquer.”

The final will see the two face off for the 19th time against each with Djokovic leading 14-4 overall and 3-0 in major cups. The odds and statistics are stacked heavily in Djokovic’s favor but it would be a prude to undersell Del Potro who impressed against Nadal in his semi-final.
