Virat Kohli Injury – The BCCI on Thursday announced that Indian captain Virat Kohli will miss his upcoming county stint in England for Surrey due to a neck strain which he suffered in the ongoing Indian Premier League. In a move to ensure that the world’s best batsmen and a vital cog in India’s batting line-up is fit before the gruelling England tour, the BCCI and Kohli have taken this step. Kohli had earlier signed up to play for Surrey for a month to get familiar with the English conditions and gather vital information about the pitches, conditions and players before the Indian team commenced their series against the England side.
A BCCI statement said Kohli “will now undergo a period of rehabilitation under the supervision of the BCCI medical team. He will begin training and subsequently undergo a fitness test in Bengaluru from 15 June. The BCCI medical team is confident that Mr Kohli will regain full fitness ahead of India’s upcoming tours to Ireland and England.”
The BCCI dismissed rumours that Kohli has sustained a slip disc and clarified that a neck sprain was the prognosis during a medical check for Kohli in Mumbai. He is expected to undergo rehabilitation from next month with an eye to be fit before the England series starting 1 August.

Virat Kohli Injury – The news once again brings up the debate of if the cricket calendar is too overbooked. After de Villiers had on Tuesday announced his retirement from international cricket citing fatigue it is high time for the ICC to look into this serious matter and reduce the number of matches per week to reduce exhaustion and injuries in players. There is no denying that Kohli has had tremendous workload during the past year in which his tally of played matches goes up to 61 in all.
Surrey director of cricket Alec Stewart meanwhile said it was “hugely disappointing” that Kohli would not be joining up with the county, but added they “have to respect the decision of the BCCI medical team”. The English side had last month signed up Kohli for 6 matches in what would have been his first county stint.
