Virat Kohli MS Dhoni – The much awaited world fame list of athletes was announced on Wednesday. The list features 100 of the best and most popular athletes from the sporting world. Real Madrid and Portugal star Cristiano Ronaldo topped the list for the third consecutive year, beating the likes of Lionel Messi and LeBron James in the process who took up the second and third place respectively. The top 10 was completed with players from football, tennis, golf and basketball with Neymar, Roger Federer, Tiger Woods, Kevin Durant, Rafael Nadal, Stephen Curry and Phil Mickelson taking up the remaining 7 spots.
The list featured 11 Indians with 9 cricketers. Saina Nehwal-badminton and Sania Mirza-tennis completed the Indians on the list. Indian captain and world No.1 Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni featured in the top 20 most popular athletes in the world.
Virat Kohli MS Dhoni – The list is compiled annually by ESPN based on social media following, endorsement deals and search score. Virat Kohli fell just short of the top 10 after coming in at the 11th position. With that he became the most famous Indian athlete and cricketer in the world. It was a proud day for Indians overall with the likes of Yuvraj Singh, Gautam Gambhir and Suresh Raina coming ahead of F1 superstar Lewis Hamilton and Chelsea ace Eden Hazard. The inclusion of Nehwal and Mirza is testament to their incredible talent and immense achievements in the past year.
