Vishwakarma Day is also known as Vishwakarma Jayanti or Vishwakarma Puja or Biswakarma Puja or Biswa Karma. Vishwakarma Puja 2017 is being celebrated on 17th September 2017. The auspicious time for Puja is till 12.54 noon.
Falling on the last day of Hindu month Bhadra, the day is dedicated to God Biswakarma the divine architect. This day is celebrated in almost all parts of India. Celebrations are done at a larger scale in the Industrial cities like Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Tripura, Jharkhand and Orissa working with tools and factory machinery.
Vishwakarma is considered to be the creator of Palaces, weapons and vehicles of Hindu Gods and Goddesses. Some of his amazing creations are Lanka which Ravana ruled, Dwarka the place of Lord Krishna and the heaven where Gods reside. He is also considered to be the creator of ‘Vajra’ the sacred weapon of Lord Indra, which was made from the bones of Sage Dadhichi. His art and caliber is unmatched in the whole universe.
Vishwakarma Jayanti is celebrated as the birth anniversary of Lord Vishwakarma.The day is also referred as Bhadra Sankranti. In some parts of India, Vishwakarma Day is celebrated the next day after Diwali. Celebrations and rituals are also performed the way they are done on Vishwakarma Jayanti.
Vishwakarma Jayanti is considered to be the most auspicious day for craftsmen and artisans. Various puja rituals are performed in Vishwakarma temples and at the workplaces. They wash and clean their tools, old machinery is repainted before worshipping them. The factories and shops are cleaned just like we do on Diwali and decorated. Puja is later performed and for rest of the day, no work is done in the shops and factories as the artisans and workers do not use their tools. Yagya puja is also performed for overall growth and prosperity of the business.
Celebrations continue even in the evening when lot of people get set for Kite flying. Local competitions of Kite flying are also arranged which see far too many participants and their families coming along to enjoy.
