Teams like SRH – Sunrisers Hyderabad and CSK – Chennai Super Kings didn’t show any interest in the player’s retention and have only released a few players in the trade. On the other hand teams like RCB – Royal Challengers Bangalore and KXIP – Kings XI Punjab have released a majority of their players.

With the auction date coming close, there is a major concern for each IPL team. So today, we shall be looking at the concerns for the teams during the IPL auctions – VIVO IPL 2020 Auction News

  • Royal Challengers Bangalore – This time has been the most problematic for RCB in the IPL so far. They have the best players in the team on paper but have not performed well on the field as they would have liked. With batting, the bowling also looks a problem for the men in red. They will look to solve their bowling in the death overs. Now, they have released their overseas pace bowlers while the Indian pace bowlers are mostly used to bowling with the red cherry. So, the biggest concern for them will be to buy the overseas pace bowlers which will make their bowling department stronger. RCB will also be looking to buy a backup wicket keeper batsman. Right now, they have only Parthiv Patel as their regular keeper-batsman but they will need a backup keeper. AB De Villers can keep wickets but that will increase the fitness issue of ABD.

  • Kolkata Knight Riders – The men in black were the best team under Gautam Gambhir. They were competitive under him but once Dinesh Karthik took the captaincy, they haven’t been competitive enough. This was why the last season wasn’t good for them and the next season might be bad because they have released a bashing opening batsman like Chris Lynn. This will be a major issue for them and the issue which they may try to address during the auctions which will be held in their city itself. In this auction, they look to buy a top-order player which will help them in improving the experience in the top three. With Sunil Narine, Siddesh Lad, and Shubman Gill are in the top order but in that, Lad doesn’t have the experience to open the innings and Gill is a middle-order player while Narine is the makeshift opener. So they will need a regular opener for the 2020 season and buying two opening batsmen will be a better idea for KKR.
  • Mumbai Indians – Mumbai Indians have been 4-time IPL champions. This is the only team that has their bases covered and whose playing eleven looks formidable with the retained players. In this year of the IPL auction, MI will look to improve their bench strength in their batting department. The likes of Yuvraj Singh, Ben Cutting, and Evin Lewis are released by them. But, they have traded Siddesh Lad to MI and would look for more options to replace in the playing XI, if the main player gets injured. Their bowling also looks strong but they will want to get backups. Overall, MI is the team that will have no major concerns ahead of the IPL 2020 auctions.
  • Rajasthan Royals – The Double R’s have included Ankit Rajpoot over Dhawal Kulkarni. This shows that they trust the raw pace attack. But still, RR doesn’t have a decent pace bowler in their squad. They have Rajpoot, Archer, and Varun Aaron in their squad but that will not be enough. They will try and get a few fast bowlers in this year’s auctions. RR will want their Indian batting bench strength to be stronger. Even though they have Buttler, Steve Smith, and Ben Stokes in the squad but they will need the Indian batting core to step up for them in the 2020 season. RR has released Stuart Binny and has traded Krishnappa Gowtham. But still, they will have to find a finisher in the squad. The finishing was a major concern for them last year.

  • Kings XI Punjab – They have the best top-order players but their middle order was a concern for them in the last season. Now, with Miller being released, KXIP will look for a proper middle-order batsman who can play the role of a finisher for them in the squad. KXIP has batsmen like Pooran, Karun Nair, Mandeep Singh, and Sarfaraz Khan in their middle order but none of these is an experienced finisher. When Miller was there with them, he could not perform up to his name in the last two seasons of the IPL. Another concern for them is the pace department. Shami has done well in the last season of 2019 but the release of Tye, Curran, and Rajpoot has brought many vacancies in the pace bowling department ahead of the 2020 auctions.
  • Sunrisers Hyderabad – SRH has picked players according to the slots, but this time they will look to buy Indian batsmen who can finish the game well for them. They have Abhishek Sharma and Vijay Shankar as the Indian batsmen and also have Nabi and Rashid Khan for this role. But they will need some experienced batsmen who know how to finish the games. Last year, when Warner and Bairstow didn’t score runs, the middle order was hampered. But this time, SRH will look to avoid the situation. They have concerns in the bowling department as well. But this time the form of the Indian pace bowlers will be a concern. Last year, Bhuvi, Sandeep Sharma, and Siddharth Kaul were not too good for them and the injuries caused to Billy Stanlake were also a concern for the SRH team. This time they will also look to solve this issue in the auctions.

  • Delhi Capitals – This team looks in good shape. Their top order did well last year and the middle order also came good with the spinners & the fast bowlers also doing well for them and that’s why DC was in the top four of the points table last year. But this time, they will need a finisher. Last year, DC couldn’t finish few games and that’s why there is a need to look at the finisher’s role more closely ahead of the auctions.
  • Chennai Super Kings – The second most perfect team in the history of IPL is CSK. This team doesn’t like to change much and this time too, they will go with the same strategy. CSK has released six players and has the same squad of 2019. But they have concerns in the middle order which was too dependent on Skipper MS Dhoni. In the last season, CSK lacked aggression in the middle overs. They will now look to buy a batsman who can hit sixes from the start. Their bowling also looks fine, but injuries can damage this team. They will have to find alternatives if anyone gets injured to avoid the last-minute hassle which might lead CSK in trouble.
