- The match ended 3-3
- Britos scored a stoppage time equaliser
- Firmino scored 2 goals for Liverpool
Watford and Liverpool showed why the premier league is the best in the world as they played out a six goal thriller in the second match of the 2017-18 season at Vicarage Road. Three goals were scored by both the teams as a late equaliser by Miguel Britos helped Watford secure a 3-3 draw against the premier league giants. Liverpool were left to rue some terrible defending and their failure to improve on it throughout the summer to miss out on the three points at the end of the match.
Whatever it was Liverpool were doing over the summer it was not improving their defending. Their incompetence to sign a new defender till now came to bite them in the back as they committed defensive blunder after blunder to concede three goals. The match was however a treat to neutrals who After Friday’s seven-goal opener to the season, watched another six at Vicarage Road. The Reds, without Barcelona target Philippe Coutinho due to a back injury and the injured Adam Lallana, fell behind to Stefano Okaka’s header. Sadio Mane restored parity for Liverpool before Doucore put Watford in the lead once again to take them leading 2-1 at half-time. Liverpool bounced back in the second half through a Roberto Firmino penalty and a debut goal for Salah to take the lead for the first time in the match. Miguel Britos scored a controversial 93rd-minute equaliser for Watford to ensure that Watford walked away from the match with a point. For Liverpool, seemingly heading back north with three points banked from their first away encounter of the season, this was a particularly calamitous defensive performance and they need a lot of work to make them serious title contenders.
