  • India defeated West Indies by 8 wickets
  • Virat Kohli scored his 28th ton
  • India win the series 3-1

India chased down 206 comprehensively to defeat West Indies by 8 wickets and win the five match ODI series 3-1 in Jamaica. Normal service resumed as the hosts’ batsmen failed again – this time on a much better batting surface. Captain Virat Kohli scored his 28th century to power India to a comfortable victory and broke Sachin Tendulkar’s record for the most centuries in a run chase in the process.

Batting first, the West Indies inability to score against spinners caught up to them again. The West Indies had gotten off to a solid start courtesy of Kyle Hope (36) and Shai Hope (51) but failed to capitalise on this start. They were put into a chokehold by the Indian spinners, as they only managed to score 76 runs of 24 overs by the spinners. Mohammed Shami and Umesh Yadav capitalised on the pressure put by the spinners, to pick up wickets at regular intervals and limit the West Indies to 205.

Chasing a small total, the Indian players made amends to their loss in the previous game with a solid performance to clinch the series in style. Lead by Kohli (111) and Dinesh Karthik (50), the Indian team cruised to victory with a solid batting performace. The two put on a partnership of 122 runs to guide India to victory.

Indian captain and Man of the Match, Virat Kohli started by saying that their aim was to win the series and he is delighted to make that happen. Appreciated Ajinkya Rahane and Kuldeep Yadav for their brilliant performances throughout the series. Informed that he likes to play according to the tempo of the game and also looks to set it at times.

Man of the Series, Ajinkya Rahane said that he wanted to make it count in the middle. Mentioned that he was playing well in the nets in the Champions Trophy as well. Added that he wanted to enjoy himself and not put pressure on himself.

With this India wrapped up the ODI series 3-1, to bounce back from the disappointment of the Champions Trophy. Given their dominant performance throughout the series there was never any doubt that they would win the series. The two will next play a T20 at the same venue on July 9.
