West Indies V. India T20: West Indies Turn On The Style To Win Comfortably
Highlights:
- West Indies won by 9 wickets
- West Indies chased down 191
- Evin Lewis scored 125
Evin Lewis scored a blistering 125 runs off 62 balls to power West Indies to a 9 wicket win over India in the one-off T20 match in Jamaica. Chasing 191, West Indies chased down the target in 18.3 overs. Lewis and Samuels built a 100-run partnership to destroy the Indian bowling unit and see the West Indies through with ease.
Moving on from the ODI series to the shorter format of the game, India batted first in the lone T20 against West Indies. India got off to a quick start on a batting friendly track as captain Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan raced off to a 50-run stand. The West Indian bowling unit bounced back from the initial onslaught to pick up two quick wickets. Debutant Rishabh Pant (38) and Dinesh Karthik (48) ensured that India continued the flow of runs. Looking well on the way to over 200 runs, a slew of wickets in the closing stages cost India and they had to settle for 190 from their 20 runs.
World champions West Indies started the run chase positively with Evin Lewis attacking from ball one. Despite getting out of the deadly Chris Gayle, there was no coming back into the game for the Indians as they found it impossible to contain Lewis. Lewis was in red hot form as he went on to score his second T20 hundred hitting 12 sixes in the process. Lewis set a plethora of records as his thunderbolt of an innings powered West Indies to victory. He hit the highest T20 score by a West Indian and the most runs scored in a chase in the process. He was adjudged the man of the match for his blazing knock.
Lewis: Once you get a hundred against a team like India, it’s a good hundred. Five games in a row, in the ODIs, I didn’t do well. But I kept believing in my ability and today I came out trumps.
Virat Kohli: In the first innings, we could have added 25-30 extra. We were on course for 230. And in the field as well, we dropped a few chances and if you don’t grab them you don’t deserve to win.
India’s next international assignment is a tour of Sri Lanka who they will take on in all the 3 formats of the game starting July 26.Wishing them luck!
