Team India Preview

The biggest blow for Team India will be that the audience will be left to witness a match without MS Dhoni on the field. MS has been a guiding mentor and is also the senior-most member of the team. He is a help to the bowlers behind the stumps but unlucky Team India, this time they will miss his services because Dhoni has opted to take a 2-months break for serving the Para Military regiment.

India is grooming Rishabh Pant for this tour to Windies. Pant will be the first choice of wicketkeeper-batsman across the formats and he has also been groomed for the World T20 in Australia which will be played in 2020.

India’s batting will be tested against West Indies. The Windies have picked up the mysterious, Sunil Narine for the T20I series. Narine has played many T20 matches alongside many Indian players in the Indian Premier League but, he will be a threat to the Indian batsmen in the middle overs. Narine knows that almost every Indian batsman has played along with him in the Kolkata Knight Riders side, so he will know how to play with them. Some mind games will be surely played in the shortest format.

India will have the luxury of Shikhar Dhawan in this T20 series. Dhawan missed many of the world cup matches due to his injury. But now Gabbar is back in the team and he will look to start the series on a good note with his partner Hit Man Sharma.

Rohit Sharma is having a wonderful time with the bat. After scoring the most number of runs, the most number of centuries, most of fours and sixes in the 2019 world cup, Hit Man will want to continue his wonderful run with the bat in this series too. Rohit won a golden bat award for his wonderful batting display at the world cup 2019.

All eyes will be on Kohli too, India’s skipper is the player to watch for in this whole tour. In the press conference, Kohli side-lined the news of his rift with India’s vice-captain Rohit Sharma. Since Rohit unfollowed Virat Kohli’s wife and actress Anuskha Sharma on Instagram, the media reports said that there is a rift between Kohli and Sharma.

The duo of Kohli and Shastri will be watched closely by the media, team management and the fans. Many of the fans and the cricket fraternity believes that Shastri should be replaced as the head coach. But Kohli said that it would be nice if Shastri continues.

Kohli will be also watched for his captaincy skills and his performance in the series. Now Kohli is left without Dhoni in this series whereas MSD has helped Kohli many times behind the stumps. So it will be interesting to see how Kohli uses his captaincy skills without MSD in the team.

Kohli’s batting will be India’s key, as he should be able to hold the innings due to the number 4 issue. Kohli is the man for India for the limited-overs series.

Bhuvi and Shami will be the new leaders of India’s bowling attack in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah. These two bowlers will have to deliver and guide Khaleel Ahmed and Navdeep Saini in this international series. Khaleel Ahmed will want to make a good comeback in international cricket. He should aim to cement his place in the T20I set up for World T20 in Australia.

Same goes with the spin department as Ravindra Jadeja will be the leader of the spin attack as Kunal Pandya and Washington Sundar are still newbies in T20I cricket. Jaddu will have double the responsibility because Hardik Pandya is also not on the tour. Hardik has been rested due to his groin injury which he sustained during the semi-final clash against New Zealand in the world cup 2019.

West Indies will look to start the series on a winning note too. After having a very poor ODI world cup in England, they started their WC campaign very well but lost some crucial moments which eventually threw them out of the competition.

The T20 is the format which suits the Windies the most. They are the only team to win the World T20 title twice. They play a fearless brand of cricket in this shortest format and that’s why they are on the successful T20 side in the world.

West Indies will be playing without Gayle Storm in this series. Christopher Henry Gayle has opted to play for the Canada T20 league.

But still they are on a good T20 side which can beat India on any given day. All the Windies players are from IPL. The Indian Premier League is incomplete without West Indies players.

Evin Lewis, Carlos Brathwaite, Sunil Narine, Andre Russell, Nicholas Pooran and Shimron Hetmyer are the key players who form an integral part of IPL for their respective franchise. These players are too good on their day, they can blast any sides in this format.

Evin Lewis did that when India played a lone T20 International in West Indies. He single-handedly took West Indies to victory. He scored an unbeaten century in that match.

Sunil Narine will now play international cricket for West Indies after a long gap. He is a key all-rounder for the Windies and will be a threat to India with his all-round skills. Narine has discovered his batting due to playing the IPL for KKR as an opener. He has opened the innings for his franchise team and has been successful. If West Indies open their innings with Narine, then it would not be surprising.

Narine and Evin Lewis will make a good pair with Shimron Hetmyer at number 3 batting position. Hetmyer is also an attacking batsman like the openers.

Nicholas Pooran had a good IPL 2019, he has got the talent 2019 which he needs to give more wings to fly. His batting excellence was seen in the IPL matches and the world cup 2019 as well. But, he needs to convert the scores into a big hundred as he did against Sri Lanka in the 2019 world cup clash. He also should not throw his wicket away, he will be the player to watch out for in the 1st T20I.

Skipper, Carlos Brathwaite will hold the key alongside Andre Russell and Kieron Pollard. They will have to hold the innings in the middle overs and they also have the responsibility to finish the innings well. These 3 all-rounders also need to deliver with the ball.

Oshane Thomas troubled Shikhar Dhawan when the Windies toured India last year. Now also, he looks to continue the momentum against Dhawan. He was picked off the bowlers for West Indies in that tour.

Sheldon Cottrell also impressed everyone with his good line and lengths in the world cup. He was the one who used the short deliveries very well but he shouldn’t be predictable. He needs to use the variations which can confuse the batsmen. That’s why West Indies bowling looked below par after the game against Pakistan in the world cup 2019.
