What is Fastag and how does the Fastag operate?
Fastag is basically a tag attachable to the windshield of your car. It uses the Radio Frequency Identification technology that links with the registration details of your vehicle. The readers installed overhead detect the fastag and then finally the necessary amount from the prepaid balance of the vehicle owner is deducted. Thus, your journey through the toll plaza is authenticated.
Fastag is a Pan-India level initiative taken to reduce bottleneck traffic on the highways. The NHAI – National Highways Authority of India announced that from 15th December onwards, all national highway payments will take place through Fastag. The NHAI is making this fastag facility mandatory from 15th December on all its toll plazas.

What is Fastag and what are the Fastag Rules?
According to information release by the Road Transport and Highways Minister, Nitin Gadkari, The Fastag facility has now been provided to 537 toll plazas on national highways all over India. The Government Gazette has notified the public that if any vehicle from December 2 and onwards enters the “Fastag Lane” without a Fastag on the National Highway Toll Plaza, it will have to pay double the fee applicable.
What is Fastag Purchase Process?
The Fastag can easily be purchased from various banks and 28500 other sale centers which have been set up by the IHMCL/NHAI. You can also find it easy to obtain the fastag from the toll plazas on the National Highways itself or can even obtain it from RTOs, transport centers, bank branches, shared service centers, selected petrol pumps, etc… Most importantly, the Fastag can also be purchased online by visiting Amazon and banks like SBI, Axis bank, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Paytm Payment Bank, and IDFC First Bank among others.
