Why Indian Army Day is celebrated on 15 January – On January 15, 2022, India will commemorate its 74th Army Day. This day is celebrated in honour of all the soldiers of the army who have bravely and selflessly served the nation. The Indian army is the largest element of the country’s defence forces and does a great job whenever there is a call of duty.

This day is celebrated at all the headquarters of Army Command. Due to the ongoing third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, the day will be celebrated amid rigid covid protocols.
Why Indian Army Day is celebrated on 15 January
In the war on the western border against Pakistan in 1947, Lt. Gen Cariappa led the Indian Army. He became the second highest-ranking officer in the history of the Indian Army on January 15, 1986, when he got the title of Field Marshal of India. The very popular and respected Sam Manekshaw in 1973 was the first officer to receive this highest ranking. Indian Army Day being just the right day to learn something about the Indian Army, it needs to be noted that “Field marshal” is a five-star General rank and the highest attainable rank in the Indian Army. It is a largely ceremonial or wartime rank, and to date has been awarded only twice.

Anand Kumar Singh, a soldier from the Indian Army, currently posted in Katra town of Jammu and Kashmir, said, “The Indian Army Day is a reminder of the past wars and a day of remembrance for all the sacrifices made by our past and present brethren. On this historical day, we recall all the past wars that our country has fought and the sacrifices of our men. Our army is the best in the world, and we are capable of tackling any situation that comes to us.”
Why Indian Army Day is celebrated on 15 January
The Indian Army in collaboration with the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) has created a new Battle Dress Uniform, which will be unveiled on this Indian Army Day. It is customary to showcase weapons and new versions of tanks and Helicopters, drones, etc. on Indian Army Day and this year the new Light Combat Helicopter from the state-owned Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) will be on display.
