Jawaharlal Nehru who was famous as Chacha Nehru among children used to love children. He wanted to educate every child and was involved in many educational and motivational programs held across India, by and for the children. His vision for the development of youth played a major role in setting up the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, or AIIMS, and the Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT). He even helped in the establishment of the Indian Institutes of Management (IIM).

Why is Childrens Day celebrated?
The first time Children’s Day was celebrated was in the year 1956. Before the death of Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru, India celebrated Children’s Day on 20 November as this date is observed as Universal Children’s Day by the United Nations.
After the death of Jawaharlal Nehru, his birth anniversary was celebrated as Children’s Day or Bal Diwas in India. It happens because he was very popular among the kids. A resolution was passed in the parliament to give Jawaharlal Nehru a befitting farewell.
On this day, schools and other educational institutions organize various events such as dance, debates, and music performances. Also, chocolates and gifts are distributed among children

Why we celebrate Childrens Day
Once Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru said “The children of today will make the India of tomorrow. The way we bring them up will determine the future of the country”.
Apart from his role as a politician and freedom fighter, Pandit Nehru also did a lot of work for the education and development of children of the country, and hence, Children’s day in India is celebrated on November 14 as a tribute to him.
