Wimbledon Women Quarter FinalsOpening game of the Women’s Quarter Finals included the English Johanna Konta who was in the quest of winning the grand slam in her home. Czech player, Barbora Strycova stood in Kontas’ way who defeated the English in straight sets 7-6, 6-1. The 19th-seeded Konta led by 4-1 in the first set before Strycova seized control of the match, and credited Strycova’s play for the reversal in the score. It was a very one sided affair as Konta didn’t seem to deliver a good performance. She underperformed according to everyone’s expectations.
The biggest fixture of the day included the match between Serena Williams and Alison Riske. Alison is in her best career form after defeating the World’s Number 1 Ash Barty in the round of 16. Serena started the game strong by winning the first set 6-4, just like in the previous game. Riske started to string points together in the second set breaking Serena Williams and ended up winning the set 6-4. The game became very open and both had an equal chance to win, Serena showed her power hitting and won the decisive set 6-3. Standing in Williams’s way in what is her 12th Wimbledon semi-final will be the unseeded Czech veteran, Barbora Strycova. After the game Riske said “I was definitely feeling the pressure, definitely”. “I think no matter any time Serena walks on the court, you’re going to feel something special. She’s something our sport has never seen before.”
Wimbledon Women Quarter FinalsElina Svitolina faced Karolina Muchova in a close affair on Court One which was edged by the Ukrainian. Svitolina won the game 7-5, 6-4 becoming the first Ukranian women to book her slot in the semi finals of a grand slam ever.
The third match included Simona Halep and Zhang Shuai. Halep won the game 7-6, 6-1. She continues her amazing form and was once again able to reach the semi finals of a grand slam. This is the Romanians consecutive semi final.
