India advance to the title round of World Archery Championships

World Archery Championships – India have made their way into the title round of the World Archery Championships as they got better of Netherlands in a marginal encounter. Both teams were tied on points in the normal duration of the game and the game was hence dragged into the tie-breaker where India proved to be slightly better as they went past their opponents by a margin of 5 points to 4.

This win has a special significance because Netherlands were playing on their home turf and had the home support, but India showed tremendous resilience to pull this off.
India had got themselves into the title round of the World Archery Championships 14 years back as well when the tournament had taken place in Spain, but they had failed to cross the final barrier back then as they had suffered a defeat at the hands of Korea.

This time around their opponents in the final will be China who are high on confidence as well, as they have actually beaten Korea and they are going to pose a really tough challenge for India in the final, but India would want to make sure that they don’t let this second opportunity go by, to become the World Archery Champions.
India had not been living up to the expectations in the global events for the past few years. The last time they had managed to enter the title round of a global tournament was in 2014. But with this performance in the World Archery Championships, they have sent a very strong statement.

Apart from the men’s category, India have actually performed fantastically in the women’s category as well. While they couldn’t make it to the finals like their male counterparts, they are actually in contention for a no. 3 finish which will earn them the Bronze medal.
