Jicama is an unusual and rare edible root vegetable which looks like a turnip. The outer body of the Jicama is white. Jicama has a mild flavor and can be eaten cooked or raw. When eating jicama, the skin should be peeled. This is best while eating it as a salad. Jicama is used with quick-cooking methods, to keep the freshness of the vegetable.


Romanesco is one of the weirdest looking vegetables. It is also known as Romanesco Broccoli or Roman Cauliflower. It has intricate spiral patterns made up of many buds. This vegetable originates from Italy and comes from the same flower family as Broccoli, Cauliflower, Brussel Sprouts and Cabbage. It has a more earthy, nutty, and mildly sweet taste.

The outer layer of the Kohlrabi is hard and needs to be peeled away before cooking. It can be used either raw or cooked. After the outer shell, there is another fibrous layer that also needs to be peeled and then finally the inner part of the bulb can be used. Kohlrabi can be used as salad, roasted or stir-fried.

Manioc is also known as Cassava and Yuca. This root vegetable originates from South America and has two varieties, one which is being sweet in flavour and the other which is bitter. Dulse looks exactly like red cabbage, but it is actually a type of seaweed. This can be eaten either fried or in foods, such as soups. Dulse is rich in iron, potassium, and omega fatty acids.

Nopales is a huge leaf-shaped cactus plant also known as Opuntia. It originates from Mexico, but now it is grown in many parts of America. Ocaoca vegetable

Similar to potato, Oca is also known as the Oxalis Tuberosa. It originates from the central and southern Andes. There are many varieties of the Oca that can be eaten raw without peeling or cooked– boiled, baked, or fried. You can even use this in your salads, soups or stews.
