Yogi Adityanath biography – Birth and Early Life
Yogi Adityanath’s real name is Ajay Singh Bisht. He was born on 5 June 1972 in the village of Panchur, in Pauri Garhwal, UP (now in Uttarakhand). His father Anand Singh Bisht was a forest ranger, who had seven children. His mother, Savitri Devi, was a homemaker. Yogi Adityanath is the second child in the family of three sisters and four brothers.

In 1990, Yogi left his home to join the Ayodhya Ram temple movement. At that time, he came under the influence of chief priest of the Gorakhnath Math, Mahant Avaidyanath. Yogi later became his disciple and was thereafter named his successor. He was given the name ‘Yogi Adityanath’ by Mahant Avaidyanath. After the death of Mahant Avaidyanath in 2014, Yogi Adityanath was made ‘Peethadhishwar’ of the math.
His political journey started when he became in charge of managing the election campaign of his guru Mahant Avaidyanath. In 1998 he was elected to the 12th Lok Sabha from Gorakhpur, Madhya Pradesh. He has since been elected many times over to the Lok Sabha from Gorakhpur. After winning the 2017 State Assembly Election, Adityanath was appointed as the Chief Minister after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on 26 March 2017.
