The bad news continued for India on the cricketing front after the U19 team lost their 3rd Youth ODI against Sri Lanka by 7 runs. With the Youth ODI series level at 1-1, the two team took to the pitch in a bid to gain the upper hand. And it were the Sri Lankans who ended up gaining that advantage after a miserable collapse by India’s middle order saw them hand over an almost won match to their Asian opponents.

3rd Youth ODI

Electing to bat first, Sri Lanka U19 were contained by a well disciplined Indian bowling effort. Opener Navod provided some impetus at the top of the batting order, top scoring with 71 but failed to find any support from his fellow teammates. A late contribution of 42 from 69 balls by wicket-keeper Nishan helped Sri Lanka add some vital runs to their total.

India U19

Chasing a modest 221, the Indian batsmen walked out looking to compliment a job well done by their bowlers. And they started out in the perfect fashion, scoring at a brisk rate while keeping wickets in hand at the same time. Pawan Shaw kept India’s chase well and alive with his 77 off 94 balls. He guided India to 181-5 at the end of 45 overs. With the finishing sight in line, India decided to run out of petrol, giving Sri Lanka an unexpected victory.

A shambolic display by India U19 in the last five overs of their innings saw them lose four wickets for 6 runs. With just 14 needed off 10 balls, India decided they were not interested in the victory. It all began with Mohit Jangra and Harsh Tyagi losing their wickets in consecutive deliveries to see India slump from a winnable position of 207-6 from 48.2 overs. Siddharth Desai was run out for a duck to wrap up the Indian innings and give a 2-1 lead to Sri Lanka in the Youth ODI series. Dulshan was the pick of the Lankan bowlers with figures of 3-37.
