India’s young guns put their best showing ever at the Youth Olympics, bringing home a total of 13 medals of the country. With 3 gold medals, 9 silvers and 1 bronze the country ended 14th on the medal tally in the second edition of the games. Individual Medal Winners:

  • Indian wrestler Simran opened India’s count in wrestling at the Youth Olympics, winning a silver medal in women’s freestyle 43 kg category competition. She lost to United States‘ Emily Shilson 6-11 in the final.
  • Shooter Manu Bhaker who could not win in the Asian Games and at the World Championships won gold at the Youth Olympics.
  • Suraj Panwar opened India’s won a silver medal in men’s 5000m race walk event.
  • Praveen Chitravel won bronze in men’s triple jump.
  • India archer Akash Malik won silver.
  • Indian shooter Mehuli Ghosh won a silver medal in the women’s 10m air rifle shooting event of the Youth Olympic Games.
  • Thangjam Tababi Devi won silver in judo.
  • Weightlifter Lalrinnunga  won gold in the men’s 62kg category
  • Saurabh Chaudhary won gold in men’s 10m air pistol gold.
  • Lakshya Sen won silver in badminton.

  • India lost to Malaysia 2-4 in the final of the men’s hockey clash to bring home the silver.
  • In the women’s hockey final, India lost to Argentina 3-1 to bag another silver in hockey for the country.
